Is your dog a good boy or girl who loves to love people? Arbor Hospice is looking for pet owners and their pets who might be interested in volunteering to pay some visits to patients nearing the end of their life.

Arbor Hospice has been providing end-of-life care since 1984. Patients typically have been given a diagnosis of 6 months or less to live. Arbor Hospice and their volunteers provide expert medical care, companionship, and relief and support for primary care givers.

One such support program is their pet therapy program featuring their own two trained therapy dogs, Alpine and Leon, as well as volunteers with their own pets. Visits from the therapy animals is a powerful way to lift a patient’s spirits as they contend with their terminal condition.

The pet therapy is such a success that Arbor Hospice needs more volunteers to work with Alpine or Leon, or bring their own friendly pet. Patients living in their own homes may also need help with dog walking or pet care. Volunteers cannot keep up with the increase in requests for pet visits.
