LANSING – Continuing to bring awareness to the often unrecognized and unreported instances of elder abuse in the state, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is hosting a senior town hall in Kalamazoo at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at IBEW Local 131, located at 3641 E. Cork St. in Kalamazoo.

Nessel has invited a group of panelists from the Kalamazoo community to join her in sharing information on efforts underway to end elder abuse. Panelists include Sen. Sean McCann, Rep. Jon Hoadley, David Benac of Western Michigan University, and Sara Carlson from the Kalamazoo County Area Agency on Aging.

The town hall provides a unique opportunity for residents to learn about the department’s available resources and statewide efforts to safeguard our most vulnerable populations – including how seniors can protect themselves from elder abuse and common consumer scams.

With more than 73,000 older adults who are victims of elder abuse each year, the Attorney General’s Elder Abuse Task Force was established to crack down on these crimes and is made up of more than 50 different organizations, including law enforcement, state agencies, legislative and congressional leaders, and senior advocacy groups.
